Shock Tool
The JAG Shock Tool is an extremely reliable shock absorber. It assures long life with a wide range of applications from rotary drilling to high speed directional drilling. The tool is designed to improve penetration rates, prolong drill bit life and prevent damage to the drill string. The specially engineered Belleville Springs and Rubber Pack Systems provide maximum vibration dampening, long life and high reliability. Should drilling fluids enter our Shock Tool it will continue to function.
Features:
Reduces excessive drill bit wear
Reduces metal fatigue
Increases penetration rates
Shorter length ensures maximum lateral stiffness
Specially designed steel spring provide maximum vibration damping
Availability of high temperature seals
Tools are available in all popular sizes, 4 ¾" through 9"
All bottom hole shocks are bored for float
Placement:
Reduced service life and potentially severe damage to the shock tool can occur if the tool is not properly located in the bottom hole assembly. It is important that the shock tool be located in a position where it is exposed to a minimum of side loading or bending stress. Ideally, the shock tool should have the same degree of stabilization on either end. If it is stabilized at the lower connection, there should be a stabilizer at the upper connection. There should also be a third stabilizer thirty feet higher in the BHA.
Operation / Rotating Hours:
The maximum recommended rotating hours for shock tools are affected by the following:
1. Size of the tool 2. Bottom hole temperature 3. Rotary speed 4. Pressure differential at
shock tool.
The following formula should be used to calculate the maximum rotating hours:
